Groomer Surprises Owners With Video Tribute of Their Late Dog: ‘Crying’

A dog owner who lost their beloved pet earlier this year was surprised with a memorial video of their pooch, after their groomer compiled footage from their appointments.

Vanessa De Prophetis, who runs Perfect Pooches from her home in Niagara Falls, Canada, shares clips of her four-legged clients to her TikTok and YouTube page, @girlwithedogs.

De Prophetis uploaded a clip last week, but this one differed from her usual content as it was a tribute video to the late Tucker.

As well as sharing it to her channel, the groomer sent the clip to his grieving owners.

The video shows Tucker getting his usual grooming treatment, as De Prophetis said in the voice-over: « Unfortunately Tucker’s owners lost him in August. But what they don’t know is that I made a memorial video for them.

« He was a 13-year-old Shih Tzu, who I saw on a six-week schedule. He always came in as my first dog of the day, so he and I had some bonding time.

« He was the goodest of boys, and he never failed to sing me the song of his people during the blow-dry. Thank you for the morning wake up call, Tucker. »

In the footage Tucker can be heard emitting a sound somewhere in between a growl and a whine.

De Prophetis continued: « He always got the same haircut, I took his body down in a three and three-quarter, and I took the top of head down in a five to eight inch comb attachment. I shave out his paw pads, and he wasn’t the biggest fan of his nail clip.

« He had the perfect little Shih Tzu face, that I would tidy up into a round fluffball. I tidy up his ears and then I spray him down in our jelly bean cologne. Tucker will be forever missed. »

It cuts to show the owners, a man and a woman, as they watch the video with smiles on their faces.

« That’s so god damn good, » says one, while the other raves: « That’s perfect. »

The clip, posted on December 14, amassed more than 200,000 views on YouTube as fellow dog owners were also moved by the memorial.

Nailah commented: « I am sat here with my 12 year old Shih Tzu crying. What a lovely gesture of you, you can see the joy it brought to them. »

L B said: « You can see the love in Tucker’s parents’ faces as they watched this video. Such a sweet memorial. »

Emily raved: « That’s so sweet. What a kind thing to do for the owners! »

Alexandria Mitchell admitted: « I wasn’t planning on getting hit in the feels today. This is so sweet of you!! »

While Trevor Moses added: « Bless you for doing that for the little doggo and his family. »

Despite being man’s best friend, sadly dogs aren’t around for our entire lives. The lifespan of dogs varies by breeds, with the animals living for roughly 11 years.

According to website PetMD.com, a Shih Tzu lives for around 13 years, other breeds, such as a Great Dane, live for only seven on average, while a Miniature Poodle can live for up to 14 years.

« We can deal with the messes and other passing aggravations; it’s the undeniable fact that people live longer than dogs that eventually brings most owners to tears, » they noted.

Newsweek reached out to De Prophetis for comment.
