Delta Passenger’s Christmas Presents in Checked Bag Replaced With Dog Food, Garbage

A Delta passenger recently had several Christmas presents in her checked luggage replaced with dog food, garbage and other unwanted items following a flight home from Paris.

According to NBC 10 News in Boston, Gina Sheldon recently took an 11-day trip to Italy, where she purchased numerous Christmas gifts for family and friends. Sheldon then stopped in Paris for a few days before returning home through Boston’s Logan International Airport.

Sheldon told NBC 10 that she purchased a new suitcase just to hold the presents she bought.

« I couldn’t wait to get home and for the holidays to come, » she said. « One, knowing I was done shopping, and two, to give them their presents that were going to be totally unique to them. »

In a statement sent to Newsweek, a spokesperson for Delta Air Lines said, « We apologize for this customer’s experience following Air France flight 334. We have affirmatively connected with our partners at Air France and the customer to find a resolution. »

Sheldon also spoke to WMUR9 News in New Hampshire about the incident, saying that she first noticed the items in her suitcase when she returned to her home in Portsmouth.

« I opened the third bag which I had all the gifts in and things I bought for myself as well, and it was replaced with dog food, an old T-shirt, a shaving cream bottle, » Sheldon told WMUR9.

Sheldon told the New Hampshire news outlet that she believes the items she purchased were replaced while stopping at the Charles de Gaulle Airport in France.

According to WMUR9, the items Sheldon purchased in Italy were worth more than $3,000, including a leather jacket that she purchased for her 16-year-old.

« I had bought these really cute leather wristlet band purses that I had bought to give to various family and friends, » Sheldon told WMUR9.

Sheldon said that she thinks that whoever stole the gifts replaced them with the dog food and other unwanted items to make her luggage appear normal as it went through security.

« I think the reason they did that is because when it goes through the scan and it continued on its journey, it looks like a real luggage product, » Sheldon told WMUR9.

According to NBC10, Sheldon said that after realizing the presents she bought were gone, her first reaction was thinking that she took someone else’s bag.

« Just all these emotions of shock and disappointment and how could this happen and what did I do wrong? » Sheldon said to NBC 10. « I went to a friend’s house for a holiday party and I had all these different gifts to give them, and instead I walked in with a bottle of champagne and a good story. »
